2014 has been our first year opening 106 The Malt House to self catering guests. It’s been good fun and a challenge. Setting up the apartment was fun, and maintaining it is a pleasure, we stay there ourselves to escape to Norwich City, we shop at Norwich Lanes, visit the cinema at Norwich Riverside, go to NCFC and watch a match at Carrow Road, walk to The Plantation Garden, we love to run so we run at Trowse, past Norwich Snow Sports Club and round Whittlingham Broad. We keep an eye on the standards.
Finding a reliable company to work with us on the housekeeping was more ‘interesting’, happily we now work closely with Anglia Business Cleaning a local team, who come in before each new guest(s) and wave their magic wands!
Our guests come from near and far, we have welcomed people from New Zealand, USA, France, Gibralter, Scotland, Wales, many from Northern England, and a few from more local areas like Peterborough and Bury St Edmunds, London and Cambridge.
Some come for short breaks to visit Norwich for the first time, some are grabbing a weekend break, often booked as a surprise for a partner. Some are attending a wedding weekend, some visiting local family or friends or children studying at UEA in Norwich. Some guests are staying for the first or second week of a holiday, before or after taking a week out on The Norfolk Broads on a boat, some spend a week in Suffolk first before coming over to Norfolk on holiday. Solo travellers come to stay if a partner is unable to join them or if they have very different ideas of where they like spending their holidays, some come to escape, just for three days out! Some come to shop, some to visit the many real ale pubs in Norwich, some for Norwich Theatre Royal, either as actors or actresses or to watch their son or daughter in a show, or to watch a show. Couples have also stayed if one is a professional and on a local work project and one is here to keep them company in the evenings and happy to do some solo exploring or shopping during the day!
Happily we are welcoming people back for second visits. Feedback tells us they return because they get to trust our standards (we are fussy), they like the security of 106, they feel safe. They like the car parking, the lift and the location at Riverside. Spring and Summer guests have liked the big terrace, and our Autumn and Winter guests have appreciated the guest controllable heating, the 40 inch TV, the stack of books and our well equipped kitchen. Most people seem to like our good communication, our flexibility with dates and the fact that they can email or phone us before, during or after their stay if they want to.
All the comments made by guests are genuine, they can be read at 106 in our guest book, if they come by email, we print them off and pop them in also.
